Holiday Hangover….

Holiday Hangover….

I’M BACK!!!!!!

I’m not actually hungover and technically its just the holiday weekend. I know I’ve been slacking…and I have good reason. I’ve been traveling and hanging out all over the place. Tonight, after I finish some Financial Accounting work….I’m going to post some things. I’ll also spend some time reading over an old manuscript that was rejected. Actually it was my first rejection. It still makes me laugh all these years later.

I hope you all are not too drunk! Ciao!

Why I won’t be watching HBO’s “Girls”

Why I won’t be watching HBO’s “Girls”

I think I’ve read every article this week about the “Unbearable Whiteness of Being” that is Girls and I understand every issue about the show. Personally, I could care less about the show. Honestly, I love other things that HBO has had to offer besides programming geared toward young women. I’ve read pieces on Clutch, Womanist Musings, Racialicious, Jezebel…etc etc etc.

I’ve seen clips of the show and I don’t see myself watching it at all. I probably won’t even attempt
to give it a chance because there is nothing that clicked with me from promo to promo. I like watching shows about young women(despite them not looking like me but that is another blog post) in major cities. Whatever was lost from screen to my eyes….I don’t know. It just didn’t seem interesting at all. The show came off as very bland and unfunny. I prefer shows like True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Big Love, Six Feet Under, etc etc etc.

I guess I could chalk it up to simply not caring about the material. As much as I tried to hop on the Sex and the City bandwagon, I never could. I simply didn’t care about fashion, or Carrie’s bed partners. I did watch it when I was pregnant but it wasn’t something that I felt like I just had to see or that I would miss it when it was gone. When I see the ads for Girls(aka Nepotism lite) I just see another rehashing of SATC for the Hipster set. I feel like a lot of networks don’t want to take a chance on something new without it already coming with a viewer base(i.e. True Blood) so they constantly try to reclaim the magic of shows past.

Girls=Sex and the City
How to Make it in America=Entourage
The River=Lost
GCB= Desperate Housewives
The Cape=Heroes
The Game=Girlfriends

See where I’m going here?

I don’t like being given the old switch when it comes to television. I want to see something new or not based on a book. How many shows can the CW produce from Alloy books? Damn! I know there are some screenwriters(present company included) who would like a shot to present new material.
When it comes down to it I won’t watch Girls because I didn’t watch Sex and the City(religiously) and its nothing more than an all Brunette cast of SATC minus the money and clothes. The CW already has the Carrie Diaries so…Girls can probably hang it up.

Where have I been

Where have I been

There is no excuse for my 10 day lapse in blogging. I have a ton of pictures and video from Around LA…Including footage from The Pierces, Fun., and Gotye…..3 fun shows on 3 fun nights. I love LA.  I’ll get back to writing so I can finally post all that I’ve been doing.

Lies-Marina & The Diamonds

Lies-Marina & The Diamonds

There are artist that need to grow on me. I will come across a single or a video and totally feel “bleh” about what I’ve heard. I basically missed out on the beginnings of Marina & The Diamonds when Perez Hilton was doing some heavy promoting. Now I’ve done a full circle after hearing “I’m not a Robot” and now “Lies”.  After my fam CDX posted the acoustic version of “Lies”….I just fell in love and I’ve had this song on Youtube repeat all night.  If you didn’t know about Marina & The Diamonds….here ya go…(FYI:LA Show coming up soon)

Umbrellas-Ships/Grey’s Anatomy

Ships by Umbrellas

I’ve always had this dream to become a Music Supervisor for some Drama on Primetime television but it hasn’t happened yet…

When Grey’s Anatomy first aired on ABC, I loved watching that show and what I loved more than the dialogue was the music selection each week. Before they started providing a song list online, I would write down the lyrics as I heard them and get on the computer to track down the band and that particular song. One song that has always been in my memory is “Ships” by Umbrellas. It’s very soft rock and full of emotion and it was a great choice for Season 3. I haven’t watched Grey’s Anatomy since they did that music episode and Callie(beautiful) was singing “Chasing Cars” while damn near dying on the hood. That sort of killed it for me. I don’t know what producers were thinking but I’m pretty sure that they were jumping on the popularity of the Glee bandwagon. Although Glee is a cute show…I never really got into it to that extent. I sure didn’t want to see some of my favorite doctors getting their Julie Andrews on around Seattle.  I wonder what happened to Umbrellas. Where are they now? I can’t find anything new on Youtube or Itunes. Hmmm…

Here are a few more songs that I enjoyed from the show…..

Grace by Kate Havnevik

Can’t forget this one ever! Derek and whiny ass Meredith set the screen on fire for this one.

Falling or Flying by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

I can’t remember which season it was that I heard this song for the first time but it inspired me to write a short script about one night a truck stop through the eyes of young lot lizard.

So in love….with this song

So in love….with this song

I was watching HULU the other day when a commercial came on for Emirates airline. I loved the melody of the song that played as each person traveled the world and met new people. Its a beautiful commercial…great to look at. Kind of makes me want to surf.

The song is called Trek by Antfood and they released the song on Itunes for .99 and I bought it. It gives me the type of mood I need to write about relationships(any kind). Its one of those songs that can be the soundtrack to the end or the beginning. Check it out! Maybe it will inspire you as well.

Later today!–My night at Champagne Bakery & The Troubador

On Thursday night I went to The Troubador to see The Pierces! I just got home and my feet hurt like HELL! I must go to sleep and share my story with you later today. There is video and pics!

Robotanist-Wait a Minute

When I first heard this song on KCRW on some random day…I fell in love. It has a very crisp sound and her voice is full of this energy that expresses the way that she is craving the love of this person and how she wants it to last. For some reason when I hear this song I think of first kisses and the beginning of love in the spring. I’ve actually been listening to it a lot on Spotify. I think I’ll add it to my writing playlist.

Things seen around L.A.

Things seen around L.A.

This weekend I found myself hanging with one of my friends and local artist Rachael Rendon. She invited me out to go to a few galleries around Culver City and Santa Monica. It was a gloomy day in Los Angeles but we were determined to get out in the world and enjoy the sights. I do enjoy art and attempt to get out to LACMA & MOCA when I get a chance. I find art very interesting to look at and I often wonder what the artist was thinking when they created the image(s) that the public will see. I found the people in the art community to be very interesting and unique in their own ways. Of course there are some that straddle the line of too much all the time but then there are many others that are just being themselves. Today I just wanted to post a few pictures of pieces that caught my attention this weekend. Unfortunately I can’t remember the artist or the names of the pieces because I didn’t grab the list before I left the different galleries for that I apologize. I think I walked through at least 15 galleries including the ones at Bergamot Station.

The bondage aspect of this piece is very intersting. I love the  lines of the women and the details were excellent. The shadows are scary but you can’t stop looking at them.
